A Few Changes In The Funnel Cake Biz

I've fallen drastically behind in keeping my readers updated on current happenings.  Several things have changed, but we're still plugging along. Last month, we had another good outing for the Fishing Expo at Richmond Raceway.  While our sales were down from last year, it was still a good show.  Only it was cold!  5 above on Saturday morning, almost as cold all day Friday.  I'm pretty sure that was a major factor in attendance being down a bit and the drop in sales. The crepe addition hasn't gone as well as I projected.  I've gotten pretty good at making them and put on a pretty good show, but in this area, most people have no idea what they are and opt for a funnel cake.  Due to the lack of response, and some personal reasons, I was forced to cancel out of the shows in New Jersey.  I was afraid I'd loose my shirt since they were rather expensive shows to start with and I could only do crepes and lemonade. As a result, I spent a couple of weekends playing street vendor in both Harrisonburg and Lynchburg.  The results certainly weren't like a good show, but it kept me busy. Another of the changes, despite the fact that I really like the folks, I was forced to drop out of my relationship with the Richmond Auto Auction.  Not only were my sales to small to make it worthwhile, it tied me up on Fridays and most of the good shows are Friday, Saturday and Sunday giving me really big headaches in trying to schedule effectively. This past weekend, we were at Richmond Raceway for the Camping and RV Show.  It was the first time we've done that show.  Friday was awfully slow, but Saturday was a pretty good day.  Sunday was tough because mom fell on Saturday night, and Jean was really distracted.  I sent her home early on Sunday leaving only me and Peggy.  She worked inside the Old Dominion Building, I was outside cooking in Big Red and running the food inside.  Liked to kill me!  This old fat guy just isn't meant to do alot of running.  And I did alot.  Peggy handled the crepes and did a great job as well. This weekend, Big Red, Jean and Peggy will be back in Richmond for the Boat Show.  I'm going in for a tune up and oil change and will be in my hammock in Tahiti. By the way, mom is OK and only suffered a pretty good bump on her head. I'm really glad to welcome a couple of new readers to our blog family.  Lauren Hamilton is the Marketing and Communications Manager for the  Bethesda Urban Partnership.  She contacted me a couple of weeks ago concerning the Bethesda Fine Arts Festival held the second weekend in May and draws about 20,000 folks in two days.  Big Red will be making a trip to Maryland for that one and I'm really looking forward to it. Also, out of my dark and checkered past, Karla Backus Morris, who used to babysit for Jason, found the blog and is now following our exploits. I'm heading for the hammock.
