I've Got Some Good News and Some Bad News

Disaster struck this week.  Every assumption I made was wrong.  Why does that surprise me? The Boat Show at Richmond Raceway was just awful.  And I went into it expecting the opposite.  It was a four day show starting on Thursday.  How many women will let their men go to a Boat Show on Valentines Day.  Not many, I can assure you. Then, we found out this was the third boat show in Richmond in four weeks.  Not good planning on the part of some promotors.  Plus, there was another boat show at Chantilly near Dulles Airport at the same time. The weather was OK the first three days but was horrible on Sunday. The result, terrible attendance and I lost my shirt. Couple that with my cancellation of the auction on Thursday and the Liberty Womens game on Saturday because I thought I'd need all of my equipment and personel, my losses were compounded.  Plus, I had motel rooms for Peggy and I for four nights, Laura and Anthony for three nights, and Tank and Dan for two nights.  A costly week to say the least. The good news from such a disaster is that the new folks at the raceway must like us because despite the lousy week, we're getting the races.  At first, at least, only the three at Richmond--two Nascar and one Indy Car.  But I'll be positioned right to expand that possibly in the future.  Assuming we can handle 140,000 people.  Plus, next weekend is the Richmond Home Show and they are anticipating 100,000 in three days so I should regain my losses from this week. Last night we did another Womens game at Liberty with much the same results.  There was barely 1,000 folks watching the girls get their 23rd win.  I just don't understand it.  Other schools in Virginia get much better turnout for both mens and womens.  But, Lynchburg just doesn't seem like a basketball town at all. This week is  light for us with the auction on Thursday, a brief prospecting run to Williamsburg on Friday and I'll pick up a Walmart for Saturday and Sunday. No basketball games until next Tuesday when VMI comes to town.  Then back to Richmond. For now, I'll continue to lick my wounds and let my finger heal.
