Wanted: Replacement For Peggy?
After long and hard contemplation--about six minutes--I have come to the painful conclusion that Peggy has to go. No, it has nothing to do with funnel cakes nor ribeye sandwiches. Nor her driving all over creation to help me with this silly business. Or the long hours she spends slicing onions and green peppers and having her car constantly smell like an onion factory. I'm not even upset about her oft referred to leash and muzzle she keeps for me. It's far more serious than that. It is her grandmothering.
Tuesday night, while I w
as waiting for the awful crowd of about 12 to arrive for the Liberty and somebody I'd never heard of basketball game to start, she called and stated, "You'll never guess what I'm doing."
I hate that lead in. "What," I asked.
"I'm sitting here eating chicken livers with Kagen on my lap, and he loves them."
"What?"
"I'm feeding the baby chicken livers." Kagen's First Oreo
"What?" Are you nuts? He's got no teeth." (Actually two.)
"Its almost as good as his first Oreo. He just goes to town and hums contentedly with each bite."
Peggy knows never to cook any kind of liver when I'm within 100 miles of her apartment. But to feed her grandson liver is unthinkable. Isn't that illegal? Certainly immoral.
Who do I tell? The law? Child Endangerment? Martha Stewart? The SPCA?
I don't know what to do. So, I'll just kick her to the curb........until Thursday and Saturday when I need her again.
Thanksgiving week at the auction was bad. But not as bad as I'd thought. We were off about 40%. I was expecting 50%. And Laura and I had no trouble handling it. Remember Peggy was at home getting ready for 40 the next day.
We had a wonderful holiday. The food was excellent. The only problem was the 20 lb. turkey was gone by 4 pm and we had to cook another one so I could have the best part of Thanksgiving--a turkey sandwich.
The auction this week was almost back to normal. Four loins but our drink sales were way off so the total for the day was down a little. But, not bad.
Basketball so far has sucked. I'm taking in enough to pay the boys and my percentage to Sodexho and Liberty, but that's about it. I'm not really expecting much more than that until after the Christmas break when Liberty gets into the Big South Conference games that actually mean something.
My last shot at a really big day is next Saturday for the two VHSL State Championship games at Liberty. That should be awesome especially if Amherst beats Salem later today and makes it to the finals. We're pulling out all of the stops for that one--including Ribeyes, which I've not yet tried at a football game.
In the meantime, any applications for Peggy's position?
