Political Correctness: Ain't It Grand
Good football games are lousy for the concession business. That's the only explanation I can offer for a strange weekend that ended the month of October. Being a sports fan, especially a football fan, I find that disturbing.
Tank and crew rocked at Liberty--again. Long lines. Sold out of several things. Another great outing for us. Liberty won 48-13, a lousy game for a sports fan, but obviously great for Liberty fans.
Peggy, her son Todd and I struggled at JMU. The Dukes lost 17-16, disappointing to their fans, but a great football game. It was also disappointing to me as it probably eliminates JMU from a home playoff game thus erasing a penciled in bonus game Thanksgiving weekend. And, it gives Tank something to hold over my head as The Crew almost doubled my sales from Harrisonburg.
It wasn't just us either. All of the concession sales were off nearly fifty percent. And everything was right for a huge day. The weather was beautiful after the couple of days of rain and fog. The crowd was huge as it was homecoming. But the game was close and the folks stayed in their seats rather than standing in our lines for a funnel cake.
Tank, Petey and Steve added Sarah to our nutty little family so I can't refer to them as Tank and the Boys anymore. I've decided just to call them The Crew since I'm always concerned with political correctness. No, that's not true. I've never been politically correrct in my life. But it does give me somebody to flirt with as neither Tank, Petey nor Steve are very pretty.
At least Peggy won't be so outnumbered as we soon move into basketball season and the upcoming Big South Volleyball tournament.
October did end on a high note as it has become my biggest month by a bunch.
November will start off busy with two more Liberty home games and we have one nutty weekend mid-month when I have JMU's final home game plus the Volleyball tournament at Liberty. But it will start winding down with Thanksgiving and the start of basketball.
This weekend we're trying something a little different. After the auction on Thursday and a high school game Tank and I will work on Friday, we're going to set up two fryers for the Liberty game on Saturday which will double our capacity. It will be interesting to see if that actually increases sales or just eliminates some of the long lines as we should be able to handle customers alot quicker. I'll report next week.
At any rate, welcome Sarah. Please forgive the political incorrectness you'll probably witness when we work together.
