LOTS OF CHANGES
My apologies for so much time passing between now and my last missive. But, there have been a ton of changes--some good and some not so good--that have kept Peggy and I on the run almost constantly.
First, concerning Big Red. She died. Actually, the bottom fell out and the price to fix it was outrageous. This led to a major disagreement between my business partner and I. He took Big Red to Pennsylvania without a bottom and I took the truck, a couple of portable cookers, a canopy tent, and kept right on going. So, after setting up my new company, getting tax numbers, insurance, etc. I went right back the way I was working in Big Red.
Hopefully, there will be another Big Red soon. But in the meantime, I'm still in business. In reality, my set-up now is almost identical to the one that I was forced to use at Richmond Raceway with that idiot fire marshall. So something good even came out of that.
Most weekends, we've been taking care of Walmarts and even have added three new stores, South Boston, Waynesboro and Staunton plus the nine I had over the past year.
This leads me to the other huge change. This one really good.
My contact at Richmond asked me to do the Fredericksburg Auto Auction every Thursday. Which of course, I agreed to. After the first three weeks, I realized I wasn't selling many funnel cakes, but selling alot of corn dogs and drinks. I can't do hot dogs or lemonade there as another vendor already has them. Bottom line, I needed something new to make the long trip worthwhile.
Now you have to picture this thing. There are 14 auctions going on at the same time. The first car goes under the gavel at 9:00 am and they sell something like 6,000 cars every week. We are set up between lanes 9 and 10. Each lane has a long line of cars waiting to go in and all of the dealers walk around smelling tail pipes or whatever they do before running in to bid on the car.
I came up with the idea of Ribeye Steak Sandwiches with sauteed onions and green peppers. I start cooking the first steak as the first car goes in. And, so far, I've sold out every week by 12 noon. I haven't yet made it to lunchtime with the steaks. This week, I'm taking four whole ribeyes. That's like 180 sandwiches at $6 each. Maybe I'll see what happens at lunchtime.
We also made a brief appearance on ESPN for the Bassmaster Classic, a weekend that saw us sell out of everything we had on Saturday and Sunday. And a 4th of July celebration at Smith Mountain Lake where we had lines with people waiting 45 minutes for a funnel cake.
I promise not to take such a long vacation from blogging again as many of you have complained.
For those who haven't seen me recently, as of last Tuesday, I have now lost 102 pounds. How, you ask? I quit drinking bourbon. I'm still a fat ass, only now not as much of one.
Later!!!!! If you know anyone that might be interested in an investment with a pretty good return, email me at fandcfloral@verizon.net. I'd really like to have a couple of trailers on the road by fall. We'll see.
