Jimmy Johnson and A Day of Fishing

Jimmy Johnson must have made a wrong turn coming out of Martinsville Speedway on Saturday morning before he won his third race of the year on Sunday because he showed up in Harrisonburg for the Home and Garden Show and parked his car--actually both his Cup car and his Busch car--right across from Big Red. This pic was actually taken from Big Red's service window. Talk about a good location for Big Red. And it was busy, not only while Johnson's cars were there but Saturday and Sunday. Right behind Big Red, a local business had set up a good sized pond equipped with a bridge and sexy lights with lots of rocks and plants. So when I had a little lull in the action, I ran to the supply truck, pulled out my rod and reel, and did a little fishing right out Big Red's back door. Unfortunately, the fish must not have liked funnel cakes because I didn't get a bite, but I spent the day fishing. Or, maybe it was because they forgot to put any fish in the damn thing. Oh, well. I also came to a conclusion this weekend concerning Peggy. Even though she is now a grandmother and much too old for me, I can't kick her to the curb. I worked the Home and Garden Show by myself. Normally, Peggy takes care of all of the hard work while I sit back and cook the cakes and shoot the bull with the customers. While I'm doing what I do best, she's slaving away mixing the batter, keeping my pitchers full, cleaning up any messes, fixing hot dogs, getting drinks, pouring lemonade, etc. This weekend I had to do it all and that sucked. Peggy was at Liberty putting up with rain and mud, delayed games, rainwater in the hot oil, water-soaked boxes of batter, freezing to death and a bunch of misunderstandings over pizza. Some grounds keeper person told her she couldn't drive to the site because it might mess up some grass. (Even though the tent is about a quarter of a mile from a parking lot.) On top of that, her car died. And I thought my weekend was tough. Who said, "Behind every man, there's one helluva woman." But we got through it and I got two really promising bookings. For now, a little break. We take Easter weekend off and Big Red is going in for a couple of weeks of maintenance. Have no fear, I'll probably still come up with something silly to write about in the meantime.
